Embroidery….

To me…there is just nothing more soothing at a stressful time than sitting down and picking up your stitching.  For me….it fills in time with pleasure.  I am an impatient “wait” person.  So, I always take along a small (cute) bag that has something to stitch, my scissors and my floss.  At any moment I can fill in those moments with pleasure and feel like I have accomplished more than running errands.  Even if I accomplish only a few stitches, I am closer to finishing my project.

Almost every pattern I design includes some embroidery.  It is obvious in the Mini Wooly Flower and Wooly Whimsy Samplers.  But, keep in mind that any pattern that includes applique can also be embroidered.  Simply trace the designs onto background fabric and then embroider.  Especially perfect for this are the Wooly Basket Sampler and the designs featured in the Grandma’s Quilts book and, of course, you could do the regular size of the Wooly Flower Sampler and Wooly Whimsy Sampler.

I encourage quilters to “Color Outside of the Lines” – take those patterns and use them in other ways.  I hope you can fill moments of your day with stitching pleasure.

SUGGESTION -  I really do not like using an Embroidery Hoop, if you feel the same, here is what I do.  After tracing the design onto the background fabric, I cut a piece of Fusible Fleece that is the same size as the background fabric.  I then iron it onto the wrong side of the background piece (the non-traced side).  This adds stability – so I don’t need a hoop and also adds some very nice “quilt-like” dimension as I am doing my embroidery.  Don’t feel like you need to stitch all the way through the fusible fleece.  Roll up your work, tie with a ribbon and add to your sewing bag!!
